  • On the positive side marine gearbox NICO under-licensed from Twin-Disk (USA) attended, including Smooth-Clutch controller ( Slipping-Clutch) system.

  • Simultaneously, Pneumatic E/P controller (through changeover valves common in between the Clutch & Governor) renovated and indeed sub-routine safeties retrofitted.

Main challenges over the steering controller were:

  • 1-The PLC based controller drives obsolete servo-valve (Moog j062 series) over Sumitomo hydraulic pump (Moog j062 containing MFB).
  • Two sets of intelligent closed-loop controllers establishes to trigger servo-mechanism, & Moog amplifier-cards hires to drive servo. 
  • PLC controls dual amplifier cards (receiving two individual closed loop feedback signals), & monitors azimuth-angle feedback & MFB.
  • The MFB is embedded in servo-valve & it’s signal receives by the PLC & processes in the ingenuity-employed subroutine.
  • 2-Second challenge more determinative, aimed to upgrade 180 degree rotation of azimuth thrusters (original Japanese model) to 360 degree.
  • Performed retrofit brought about improved maneuvering strategy to let 360 degree azimuth-rotation over thrusters, upgraded to a nimble ASD.
